The wooden structure building you are currently seeing is the early Fenqihu Station. The original building was constructed using cypress wood. It was later rebuilt in 2004, and the space is currently used as the Supervisor’s Office. Fenqihu Lake Station is a must-stop on the Alishan Forest Railway. In the early days, there were about seven to eight trains per day. After departing from Chiayi in the morning, the train would arrive at Fenqihu just in time for lunch. Since steam locomotives had to be refueled with water and coal at Fenqihu Lake, they would make a temporary stop there. During this stop, which also happened to be lunchtime, many vendors would sell noodles or pastries around the train station. Later, they mainly sold lunch boxes. After “Fenqihu lunch boxes” became famous, it became one of the unique features of Fenqihu Station.
