Do you know that Fenqihu Loco Shed has been relocated? As shown in the 1927 “Distant View of Jade Mountain from Alishan Album” by Jiu-San Lin, Fenqihu Loco Shed was located on the southwest side of the railway. The image shows the prince’s tower (ventilation tower) and chimney roof features of that time. Due to a landslide caused by continuous heavy rains in June 1931, the Fenqihu Loco Shed was buried and had to be relocated and rebuilt on the north side of the station. The 1934 “Prince Komori’s Taiwan Imperial Visit Photo Album” shows the appearance of the rebuilt loco shed, which is located in the same place as it is today. At that time, it still had a “prince’s tower” structure, a ventilation window installed on the ridge of the roof for heat dissipation, moisture removal, and lighting. The name “prince’s tower” comes from its resemblance to the official hat worn by Japanese princes. Over the years, the loco shed has undergone numerous renovations due to typhoons and natural disasters. The “prince’s tower” structure no longer exists today.
