After the introduction of diesel locomotives on the Alishan Forest Railway in 1953, the demand for diesel fuel gradually increased. Oil tanks were installed in the loco sheds to store diesel fuel and provide and replenish power for the locomotives’ uphill and downhill journeys. In addition, oil gun facilities can be observed on the walls of the loco sheds to make it more convenient for engine crews to refuel the locomotives.
