Hello! Welcome to the “Mountain Journey Memories - Fenqihu Loco Shed: Reliving the Glory of the Past” exhibition! Fenqihu Loco Shed is the only surviving wooden structure among the three major loco sheds along the Alishan Forest Railway. After careful restoration in recent years, the beauty of the loco shed has finally reappeared before our eyes. Let’s take a walk through the exhibition and learn about its historical glory and the landscape of Fenqihu Village!

The Alishan Forest Railway was one of the crucial constructions during the Japanese colonial period. The first section from Chiayi to Erwanping was officially opened to traffic in 1912. Later, as the forestry industry continued to develop and expand, the demand for routes also increased. So, the forest railway lines gradually extended to the Zhaoping area after 1914. In addition to the original Alishan main line, multiple branch lines based on the Tashan and Zizhong lines were added to provide a more convenient transportation system for forestry industry development. The loco sheds were indispensable parts of the Alishan Forest Railway that played a crucial role in keeping the railway running smoothly for over a century. Situated at each station along the railway line, the loco sheds were like the beacons of the mountain range. They were responsible for maintaining and repairing locomotives and carriages to ensure safe and efficient train operations.
